I. Background and the challenge

JustJobs Network is a private, nonpartisan organization finding evidence-based solutions to one of the most pressing challenges of our time: How to create more and better jobs worldwide. JustJobs convenes a global network of diverse stakeholders—including policy shapers, academics, and grassroots leaders — to deepen the practical implications of our research endeavors and amplify their impact.

Just Jobs Network was looking for a rebranding and a redesign of its website. The earlier website was built on WordPress CMS, JJN felt that the design of the earlier one was not in terms with the modern design, categorisation of the tagging system was not compatible with their research posts anymore, and the CMS that they were using was frustrating to use for the editors, the biggest challenge the editors were facing while posting content on CMS was the improper functionality of tags that are important to a research-based website.

While designing the new website, our main challenge was to build a functional categorisation system for enormous amounts of data that is easy to use for users and editors alike. We also had to make sure that the design of the categorisation system will be working well into the future.

II. Information Architecture

Our primary research was focused on understanding the diverse content models which represent the current posts and the ones that might constitute the future posts. From our research, we devised the content model categorisation into 3categories, Case studies, Research Models, and Insights model (which talks about Explainers and Analysis) into Category1, which will be used as primary navigation.

Category2 segregates posts on the length. Less than 1000 word posts can be used as quick opinions of other researchers opinion on a story like Universal Basic Income. From 1000 to 2000 words is reserved for longer explanations that are aimed at more serious readers. And above 2000 words category which is an extensive research projects category that can go on for months. We also formed a new content model, stories, which are focused on breaking down the posts that are above 2000words into smaller posts, all of these posts might have a different thumbnail but are connected to posts of the same family and display a primary thumbnail of the original post.

Categorisation3 is focused on tags, every post can have several tags that link to the individual page of tags which displays all the posts that contain the tag. We also made sure that the design allows JJN to add more tags in the future.

III. UI Design

Our design system helped us build a component-based design we think will work for long into the future. Once our initial wireframes were validated, we decided on a newspaper kind of look for the website, we had a lot of back and forth with the client to get the look and feel right.
